The RINX Skate-A-Thon for Angela's House

We will be sponsoring a fundraiser for Angela’s House on Tuesday, March 5th and Wednesday, March 6th. The children will be participating in an Olympic themed Skate-A-Thon during their regular skating times.

Angela’s House is a 501(c)3 Long Island based non-profit organization that assists families caring for children with special health care needs who are medically fragile, chronically ill or suffering from a life threatening illness. The Home Care program helps to coordinate the complex array of home care services needed to support over 670 children living at home with their parents in the community. Angela’s House I, II and III are special homes that care for medically fragile children. The children who live here are cared for in a warm, loving home environment that is suited to accommodate their complex physical and medical needs. These homes have 24 hour nursing care. They currently have three homes located in East Moriches, Smithtown and Stony Brook. They are the first of their kind in New York State. In addition, the Stony Brook home currently cares for children dependent on ventilator to assist them with breathing.

Angela’s House works with hundreds of extraordinary children and families who have ordinary (everyday), but critical needs. Fundraised dollars go to the Everyday Wishes Program which utilizes donations and grants to assist families by paying for medical supplies, equipment and other support services that cannot be funded through other means. This is life-changing for the children and their families! Together we can work to ensure they have access to supplies, equipment and other support services that enable them to have a better quality of life.

For those that don’t know, one of our very own teachers, Miss Kat, has a personal connection with Angela’s House. Her daughter, Emma, was diagnosed with a very rare syndrome that affected her overall development. Emma required a 24 hour ventilator to help her breathe as well as a feeding tube to get nourishment. Emma also required other medical equipment that was needed for a medically fragile child. But thanks to Angela’s House, Miss Kat and her husband were guided and comforted. Angela’s House not only guided them and equipped them with the necessary resources to provide for their daughter, but Angela’s House became their safe haven. Anytime they needed information about nursing agencies, medical supplies, medical equipment (to name a few), Angela’s House was only a phone call away. Angela’s House was always able to help them to make sure their Emma was well cared and provided for.
